From Newton Thompson of the Affordable Housing Trust –
The Medfield Affordable Housing Trust was created by Town Meeting approval in 2017 for the purpose of preserving and creating affordable and community housing in the Town of Medfield for the benefit of low and moderate income households.
To that end, one of the Trust’s outstanding goals is to foster and support the creation of housing for local adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (DD/IDD). To help achieve that goal, the Trust members have recently engaged a consultant, Cathy Boyle, President of Autism Housing Pathways, to advise the Trust on the level of need and interest for such housing in the Medfield area.
In order to determine local need and interest, a survey has been prepared by Autism Housing Pathways (“AHP”). If you have interest in such housing in the next few years, please contact Cathy Boyle at AHPhousing@comcast.net by November 11th for access to the survey.
Based on the survey response, the consultant will conduct up to 3 respondent focus groups (which may be done virtually) to discuss housing options.
We greatly appreciate your help in this important Town initiative.

DRINKING WATER NOTICE To all users of the Medfield Water Department located in Medfield, Massachusetts
We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants to ensure the safety of the water supply.
On October 13, 2022, our water system was notified that a water sample collected on October 12, 2022 from Well #4 tested positive for E.coli, which is a fecal indicator. Fecal indicators are used to detect groundwater sources that may be susceptible to fecal contamination which may contain harmful viruses or bacteria. When we learned of the fecal positive sample, THE WELL WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN OFFLINE.
The water delivered to your taps through the distribution system is disinfected with chlorine to kill viruses and bacteria, including E.coli. It is important to note that samples collected on October 12, 2022 in the distribution system did NOT detect any fecal contaminants.
This source is one of four active wells that supplies drinking water to our system. In accordance with the federal Ground Water Rule (GWR) requirements, we are notifying you of the situation and conducting additional sampling to evaluate the extent of potential fecal contamination and will take further actions as necessary.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
This is not anemergency, you do NOT need to boil your water or take other corrective actions at this time.
The USEPA requires us to provide you with this notice and the following information on fecal indicators: “Fecal indicators are microbes whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.” These symptoms can also be caused by issues unrelated to drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, or, if you have specific health concerns, you may want to discuss such concerns with your doctor. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 or https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/safe-drinking-water-hotline
Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and Businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
WHAT IS BEING DONE?
The well will remain offline for further evaluation. Our system is undergoing repeat testing and evaluation to determine if the current level of treatment is adequate or if additional corrective actions are necessary to reduce the risk of potential fecal contamination in our drinking water supply.
We are in contact with MassDEP during this process who will evaluate the effectiveness of the steps taken and determine if any further action is required. If necessary, you will be notified again if you need to take any corrective actions. This notice does not affect persons using private drinking water wells.

Email this afternoon from Town Administrator, Kristine Trierweiler –
We have submitted the FY2023 budget to GFOA (Government Finance Officers Association) today seeking a distinguished budget award. The document has also been posted on the Town’s website:
I am supporting and endorsing Kevin Kalkut for State Representative in the November general election.
I have met with Kevin several times, and I find him bright, interested, engaging, knowledgeable, educated, and well aware of our municipal issues. He has most recently had responsible relevant executive level work experiences, after starting out his career as a chef. Importantly too, he has had municipal government experience on the Town of Norfolk Select Board. I have come to feel that Kevin truly cares about making our towns work better for our residents. I found Kevin approachable and good at listening. From our conversations, I am confident that he would represent Medfield’s town interests well in the Legislature. I hope you will join me in supporting Kevin Kalkut for State Representative.

About The Medfield Foundation Charity The mission of Medfield Foundation, Inc. (MFi) is to enrich the lives of Medfield residents and build a stronger community by supporting private fundraising initiatives that address un-met public needs. In 2021, MFi received 38 requests for assistance. Rent assistance continues to be the number one most common type of request. As a community foundation, we have had the privilege of working with many organizations and individuals in our town to raise over $3 million dollars that has been directed back to Medfield since our inception in 2001.
Participation in MFi initiatives like the Angel Run have a direct impact on Medfield residents in need. “There is so much to say about this foundation that words could never express. I have so much gratitude for everyone who is a part of this and consistently helps families such as myself. A few years ago, my lease was up for renewal and the rent increase was more than I could handle. This foundation donated a portion of the rent, which allowed me to situate my bills and funds to be able to help me be prepared for the upcoming months. The amazing souls apart of this program have honestly been a blessing and got my family and I out of multiple ruts. I hope all families in need can continue to receive their help and gratitude. Thank you again for all that you do!” – Recent recipient of MFI support.
I started this blog to share the interesting and useful information that I saw while doing my job as a Medfield select board member. I thought that my fellow Medfield residents would also find that information interesting and useful as well. This blog is my effort to assist in creating a system to push the information out from the Town House to residents. Let me know if you have any thoughts on how it can be done better.
