GWC Final Fundraiser in support of Medfield Youth Outreach!

The Girls Who Care service group (GWC) is a group of Medfield High School 2020 graduates who have been together since Kindergarten. They have completed approximately 50 service projects over the years and are excited to announce their final project! They have partnered with a fundraising company to offer a variety of items featuring a beautiful and unique logo designed by Medfield alumnus Rachel Tatro. To them, the logo represents the spirit of the MHS Class of 2020 along with the love and support they as a class have felt from the Medfield community during the unusual end to their time at MHS. They are selling these items to raise money for Medfield Youth Outreach, an organization that helps Medfield families in need access assistance and resources. Click on the link below to see almost 90 items that you can purchase with the logo on them. Great for graduation gifts, off-to-college gifts, or keepsakes! GWC will receive 35% of the proceeds for almost all of the items, and all money raised will be donated to Medfield Youth Outreach. All orders must be placed by July 3rd and will be delivered in time for MHS graduation on July 25th. Thank you for helping them give back to the Medfield community one last time before college! Kudos to the DPW

Last Sunday morning I biked the Rolling Rally route to see what the families would later see, and I bumped into Bobby Kennedy. Jr. leading two other DPW workers as they mowed and weed whacked the grass and weeds along the Rolling Rally route, all to make the event better for the MHS class of 2020 and their families.

It is the sort of thoughtful thing our DPW often does without fanfare, or request, around town, but about which the town should know – so we can truly and fully appreciate the value of our DPW.

Only when I ran Medfield Day did I learn that it was our DPW that swoops in en mass at the end of Medfield Day to clean up the mess that we residents left behind, such that by nightfall there is no sign of a street fair having happened.

DESE Provides Guidance Related to High School Graduations
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Earlier today, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released guidance concerning high school graduations. Please see below.

Graduation guidelines:

Between now and July 18, graduation should be held virtually or in limited circumstances following safety protocols, such as car parades.

Beginning July 19, graduation ceremonies can take place OUTSIDE under certain conditions, assuming the public health data supports continued opening of our state, at that time.

  • Any graduation ceremony must be held outside only in a large venue to accommodate social distancing of at least six feet if attendees are not from the same immediate household. Tents or other enclosures are not permitted.
  • Only immediate family of graduates can attend. Families must sign up in advance, and only those who have pre-registered may attend.
  • All attendees must wear face masks in accordance with the Governor’s COVID-19 Executive Order No. 31 and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s guidance. Speakers may remove masks during their remarks.
  • Graduates should individually be invited to walk across the stage and turn their tassel in lieu of receiving a diploma by hand. No handshakes or hugs.

Social distancing guidelines

  • Guests who are not part of the same immediate household must be seated at least 6 feet apart. Members of the same household are permitted to sit together less than 6 feet apart.
  • If there is fixed seating, rows should be blocked off and kept empty to allow for sufficient distancing between rows.
  • Children under 5-years-old and older adults, or those with vulnerable health conditions, should be discouraged from attending.
  • School staff must monitor the number of attendees entering and confirm they have pre-registered.
  • No receptions are permitted before or after the graduation.

Venues must have sufficient access to hand-washing facilities, including soap and running water, as well as alcohol-based hand sanitizers available at all entrances and exits.

String King Lacrosse, of LA, CA was founded by Jake McCampbell, Medfield High School Class of 2007 and Luke Aronson, Medfield High School Class of 2005 (cousins).  Sam Aronson joined the company after graduating from Tufts in 2015.

Rolling Rally on 5/31 for MHS Grads

CLASS OF 2020 SENIOR CELEBRATION DAY Rolling Rally to honor Medfield H.S. Class of 2020! Please help honor the Medfield H.S. Seniors on what would have been their originally scheduled graduation day, May 31st. We are bringing the Medfield community together in a safe way to celebrate the Class of 2020. A Rolling Rally of cars will pass through town (see route on page 2) on Sunday, May 31st beginning at 1PM. Please pardon any road closures that may impact your travel during this time. Hi everyone! We are trying to organize a community wide event to show our support for all doctors, nurses, and medical professionals working to help and heal during this difficult time.

 

TONIGHT, at 7 PM, “Unite with Light” by placing a battery-powered lantern, luminary, flashlight, or other light outside your home or in your window as a show of support for our hometown heroes.

An appreciation of our town employees

An appreciation for a job well done

I have been thinking this morning about the Town of Medfield employees who provide we residents with the services that allow our lives to continue with as much semblance of normalcy as possible at all times, but most especially in these truly unsettling circumstances we are currently experiencing. Our water goes on, public safety continues to serve us, the Transfer Station even added Sunday openings, and all the town government systems continue to function, if behind a digital curtain, all so that we residents can continue our lives.

The town employees are providing essential services, so while they likely share the same unease that envelopes us all, they continue to work their jobs.  I wanted to publicly share with the Town of Medfield employees my sincere appreciation for their efforts  and to thank them.

I am extremely appreciative of what all the town employees are doing now, working under difficult circumstances – I want to let them all know just how much this one resident, one who tries hard to observe closely the functioning of the town government so as to understand it as well as possible, truly appreciates what our team of town employees are accomplishing for we residents.

Dear Middle and High School Parents,

In collaboration with the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention (MedfieldCSP), the faith based community in Medfield is excited to present new programming for teen peer to peer training for mental and emotional well-being and awareness.

Last June, many high schoolers participated in a focus group facilitated by Dr. Nadja Reilly, from William James College. The intent was to listen to these students to unveil some pressing issues the students may be experiencing and their root causes. Our students’ input was profound and extremely insightful. Based on the feedback from student and parent focus groups, we have started to develop programming and we would love to share this information with you.

We invite parents to learn about this new peer to peer training initiative and hear ways parents/guardians can support emotional resilience in our youth. Dr. Reilly will be presenting on Monday, September 23 at 7:30pm – 8:30pm at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 133 Spring Street, Medfield.

St. Edward Church and UCC Medfield are collaborating on this important initiative, along with the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention. Please note that while the two faith communities are organizing this initiative, events are open to all parents within the Medfield community.
