Dear Parents,

This is an exciting time in our district. We have been selected by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to potentially build a new Dale Street School. The MSBA has given us two grade configuration options for new construction- a building with grades 4 and 5 or a building with grades 3, 4, and 5. As you can imagine, many decisions will need to be made and we want input from the people most affected by potential changes. In addition, your feedback will be valuable to both the School Committee and School Building Committee throughout this entire process.

 

To collect the feedback, we are using a new tool called Thoughtexchange. Within this tool, you will be asked to answer two demographic questions and one open-ended question with as many responses as you like. Then you will be asked to rate your thoughts and the thoughts of others by assigning stars to each thought (from 1-5) depending on how strongly you agree or support that idea. You can rate as many thoughts as you’d like. Once you’ve completed this step, you can review all submissions sorted by the average star rating.

 

It is important to note that all feedback you provide via this platform is confidential. This includes any shared thoughts, as well as specific ratings. We encourage you to revisit the site regularly as more and more thoughts are submitted.

 

Please submit your thoughts and complete your ratings by no later than Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

The initial newsletter of the Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund appears below.  It focuses on the recipients of the inaugural round of Legacy Fund grants, who are creating exciting things for the town’s future:

MHS Clay Club to Hold Fundraising Event for Food Cupboard

Medfield High School Clay Club, under the guidance of art teachers Sara Higger and Kate Jones, is planning a fundraising event called “Empty Bowls.” The club held their first ever Empty Bowls dinner last year, and it was very well received by the community. Local restaurants and businesses supported the event through soup and bread donations and the MHS Culinary Club provided the desserts.

Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger organized by artisans on a community level, and Ms. Higger and Ms. Jones brought the concept to Medfield in order to raise money and awareness for the Medfield Food Cupboard.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser begins with a clay soup bowl making class at Medfield High School, followed by a glazing session a week later. The event finale takes place on March 19 when participants gather at Blake Middle School to enjoy a simple but delicious meal from their beautiful hand-made bowls.

Participants who are not be able to attend the earlier pottery sessions are encouraged to come to the dinner on the 19th; they can choose a bowl made by the MHS art students. At the end of the meal, all the guests take their bowls home to keep as a reminder of their donation to their Medfield neighbors in need.

Those interested in participating in the Empty Bowls event should go to the Medfield Food Cupboard website – www.medfieldfoodcupboard.com – and click on the Sign-Up Genius to see available dates for classes and dinner. This is a great family-friendly event – children are welcome.

“We are so pleased that Ms. Higger, Ms. Jones, and the Clay Club are once again holding this community-building event on our behalf,” said Food Cupboard Co-President Tracey Rogers.

“We rely completely on financial and food donations to support our mission,” continued Co-President Susan Gorog. “We deeply appreciate the generosity of our community and its support of this creative fundraiser.”

Representative Denise C. Garlick announces her annual report to the Town of Medfield:

 

Dear Friends-

 

I hope that you and all you love are having a wonderful start to 2020. As the State Representative for the 13th Norfolk District, it is an honor to represent the people of Needham, Dover and Medfield and I am proud of our Towns and our Commonwealth.

 

I am writing to invite you to an annual Report to the Community

which I will present at the

 

Medfield Public Safety Building

 

on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 7:15 – 8:30 PM.

 

The main topics will be a review of the work and events of 2019, and a preview of 2020.

 

The evening’s schedule will include a Reception (7:15-7:30), Report (7:30-8:00), and Questions and Discussion (8:00-8:30).
