Residents celebrate launch of Foundation Legacy Fund

 Wednesday
Over 50 Medfield residents gathered to celebrate the launch of the Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund on Oct. 25.The program for the evening featured Town Historian Richard DeSorgher, who provided a history of community philanthropy in Medfield. DeSorgher described how Medfield residents have, since the 17th century, given themselves and their resources to make Medfield the community it is today.

The Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund is a new initiative in partnership with the Foundation for MetroWest that offers individuals, families, civic groups and businesses of Medfield the opportunity to contribute to the community. The Foundation for MetroWest, located in South Natick, is a community foundation serving 33 cities and towns in the area, including Medfield since 1995. In addition to its programs for regional grantmaking and philanthropy education, the foundation provides a Town Fund program, specifically developed to provide the resources and support for establishing funds dedicated to particular towns.

Meeting(s) on affordable housing

40b

This morning, Chris McCue offered to help with the upcoming 9/26 meeting about affordable housing (since I had advocated for a meeting to discuss affordable housing issues).  But since I had not organized, nor planned the 9/26 meeting (I only learned about it when I went to the last Selectmen meeting), I forwarded Chris’ offer to the town administration.  I received this response from Kristine Trierweiler –

The meeting on 9/26 was for town boards to discuss affordable housing with the BOS. I believe that is separate from a town wide forum on 40B. Mike had been working with Mark on that.

Given that, Chris is correct that people will be attending the working session on 9/26 as well so I will touch base with Mark/Mike on scheduling the 40B meeting similar to the one we held when Parc was first proposed.

Kristine

I apologize if my lack of information caused me to jump to conclusions that mislead anyone about that 9/26 meeting.  I had actually mistakenly believed that the 9/26 meeting was intended as the public forum on 40B and affordable housing that I had envisioned, but apparently it is not – although the public meeting may now be getting arranged.  It looks like we may be getting two separate meetings:

  • one targeted at town boards, discussing the issues, and
  • one targeted at the public, seeking to inform and seek input, I imagine.

PanMass – “No Track!” in Medfield

Dear Pete,

The first year living on Harding Street we awoke one August morning to hearing “quack……quack……quack”. We discovered that it wasn’t “quack” but cyclists whizzing by saying “track……track……track”.

Today there was joy in voices as they approached the West Mill St & Harding intersection exclaiming “track..NO TRACK!”

20160805-Pan Mass Challenge

Thank you to you, fellow Selectman, Mike Sullivan and all the other town staff for spearheading the effort to remove the tracks. It was timely and much appreciated by the PanMass bikers. Personally I appreciate not hearing “thud-thud-thud-thud-thud” anymore.

My only concern is the speed at which drivers come around the curve from Med State. Is it possible to post the mobile sign showing how fast people are driving for a little while?

Sincerely, Teresa James

Former selectman Richard DeSorgher was particularly persistent while serving as a selectman in seeking to have the RR crossings on both Harding and Farm Streets improved.  Given how fast the change happened yesterday morning on Harding, during the hour I was holding office hours at The Center, I am guessing that the rails are still below the new asphalt.

The Medfield Police Department’s radar sign has actually been parked around the corner for the past week on Hospital Road at Clayton.
