for adding Sunday openings of the Transfer Station to their work week. One can only assume that the extra work time must make for a long week and be tiring for them.

I have been thinking this morning about the Town of Medfield employees who provide we residents with the services that allow our lives to continue with as much semblance of normalcy as possible at all times, but most especially in these truly unsettling circumstances we are currently experiencing. Our water goes on, public safety continues to serve us, the Transfer Station even added Sunday openings, and all the town government systems continue to function, if behind a digital curtain, all so that we residents can continue our lives.
The town employees are providing essential services, so while they likely share the same unease that envelopes us all, they continue to work their jobs. I wanted to publicly share with the Town of Medfield employees my sincere appreciation for their efforts and to thank them.
I am extremely appreciative of what all the town employees are doing now, working under difficult circumstances – I want to let them all know just how much this one resident, one who tries hard to observe closely the functioning of the town government so as to understand it as well as possible, truly appreciates what our team of town employees are accomplishing for we residents.

Re: Playdate Guidance for Medfield Families
The Medfield Board of Health today issued tangible recommendations to help Medfield families better navigate the social distancing strategies advocated by Governor Charlie Baker, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
With schools and childcare services closed, many parents may be struggling to cope with children at home. Working from home with children present can be challenging, especially when they are younger.
It is important to remember that playdates put people in your family and community at greater risk of getting COVID-19. The best way to protect vulnerable members of your family and your community is to not have playdates; however, for some families, it may not be feasible to completely eliminate them.
If you must have playdates, there are strategies you can use to greatly reduce transmission risk:
Consider Playdate Monogamy
Consider a “monogamous” playdate relationship. If, because of your work or family situation, you must have your children participate in some playdates, consider partnering exclusively with another family, and sticking with them throughout the COVID-19 outbreak. Pick a family that is in a similar situation and is also serious about social distancing. If the adults in both families are consistently practicing social distancing, and their children are only playing with children of one other family, that is much better for slowing down the spread of COVID-19 in our community than a situation where children are playing with children from different families each day.
Please see the enclosed Washington Post article
(https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2020/03/14/parenting-tips-coronavirus/) which contains very good recommendations. This article emphasizes the importance of establishing a routine with your children. It also provides several resource links for homeschool resources, working from home with kids, and screen time strategies.

Town officials would like to thank the public for their understanding during this challenging time for our community. The situation involving COVID-19 continues to evolve and Town officials remain in close contact with state officials, the Board of Health, and the Town’s Emergency Management Director to share information and guidance. These building closings are intended to help employees and the public practice social distancing, a tactic aimed at helping stop the spread of COVID-19. At this time, there remains no indication of community spread of coronavirus in Medfield.
The Town website will be the best place to stay up to date on local information and we created a page dedicated to COVID-19 information:
https://www.town.medfield.net/1860/CoronavirusInfo-COVID-19
The Town recently converted to a new emergency notifications application (CivicReady). Due to the evolving situation with COVID-19, we moved up the roll-out of this new service. Residents can create an account to receive alerts and notifications here:

Subject: Message from the Superintendent- COVID-19 Update #5- Important
To: <jmarsden@email.medfield.net>
Dear Parents,
After several conference calls today with state officials and other superintendents, as well as a meeting with the Town Administrator and the Medfield Board of Health, the decision has been made to close the Medfield Public Schools for at least the week of March 16th to March 20th. Given the emerging data from infectious disease modelers, there is a strong possibility that an additional week may be needed. Please note that our last day of school will be June 22, even if there is a need for additional absences. You will receive additional information from principals on Monday regarding expectations for students during the closure. I’ve attached a letter from the Medfield Board of Health with very important social distancing recommendations for all Medfield residents. We still do not have a presumptive or confirmed case of COVID-19 in Medfield, (probably due to the lack of testing), therefore, following this guidance around gatherings and “play dates” is critical to slow the spread of the virus.
I recognize how disruptive this will be to our families, but this decision is really in the best interest of our students, staff, and the entire community. I thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.
Sincerely,
Jeff Marsden
