Town House office hours

Town Administrator Kristine Trierweiler and other town employees are moving their office functions outside, to encourage resident interaction and use of the town services.  This afternoon Kris (left) and Kathy VandenBoom, Director of Human Resources, were holding court in front of the Town House front entrance.

During my visit, I waited in line behind Matt McCormack and his son, and then this user dropped off his vote by mail request in the USPS mail box on the table, went inside to sign the Town Clerk’s warrant for the upcoming primary election, to sign the weekly town spending warrants, and to pick up the Medfield Foundation’s mail.

Kris posts on Twitter when the outside office is available – it has recently been several times a week.  Look for them out front.

Vigil 3PM Sunday

A group of residents has organized a vigil for Sunday at 3 pm, with the UU Church bell to toll at 4 pm to mark an 8 min. 46 sec. moment of silence. Additional details are below. We’d like to thank Chief Guerette for her input on the timing. Please join us if your schedules permit.

 

You are invited to gather in solidarity with the BBIPOC (Black Brown Indigenous People of Color) community members in Medfield and beyond, to condemn racism and promote racial equality and to hold vigil for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade and their families on Sunday at 3pm AND to participate in a day of action.

 

On Sunday at 3 pm you are invited to line the sidewalks between the Police Station and Town Hall with signs and/or candles OR outside your home in your neighborhood.  At 4 pm we will be in silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. The Unitarian Church will ring the bells to commence and complete the moment of silence.

 

You are also welcome to show your solidarity with a sign, piece of art or chalking in the town center on Sunday at any time during the day.  There will be some interactive art, writing installations and an altar outside the Unitarian Church at which you can leave an offering of peace, and we encourage whatever else the community wants to offer.

 

There will be no speakers at this event, we are coming together in action and a show of support. Please honor social distancing and wear masks.

 

Racism is an ongoing problem. This gathering on Sunday is only one step in the direction of promoting racial justice. If you are interested in being part of an ongoing effort, please reach out to Kathy McDonald at Medfieldyouthoutreach@medfield.net.

 

HOW YOU CAN HELP ON SUNDAY:

 

  1. Spread the word! Please tell all of your friends, schools, businesses you know, library etc.

 

  1. If you own or know someone who owns a business in Medfield (or would like to go call them or show up at their door) ask them to offer their store front or windows for art and messaging.  Gather a group of friends to create something with that store together. Take the lead!

 

  1. Create a sign and show up in the town center with your family or a group of people anytime on Sunday.

 

  1. Do you feel passionate about education? Perhaps you want to pass out fliers with resources.

 

  1. Do you want to gather some students to sing during the day? Do it. And spread the word so people come.

 

  1. Want to gather a smaller group in your neighborhood for the moment of silence? I encourage you to take the lead and hold space for that.

Forum #2 Zoom Instructions Guide

The Townwide Master Planning Committee and consultant team are performing an enumeration of existing resources which will result in an Inventory and Assessment of Existing Conditions of the Town’s resources.

The purpose of the Forum is to gain Medfield citizen input on the 8 goals and objectives.  Each goal has up to 3 objectives with ideas on strategies on how to achieve them.

Memorial Day – church bells

Memorial Day – First Parish and Baptist church bells rung at noon

John Kraus shared his recording (below) of the church bells rung on Memorial Day.  John made his recording in front of the Town House.

I observed Memorial Day by going to the former Medfield State Hospital to listen to the noon bell ringing at the Lee Chapel (the bell in the photo above, with the large sounding hammer showing to the right).  John Thompson, Chair of the Medfield State Hospital Building and Grounds Committee and the Property Manager, shared that the bell is inscribed “1896,” that one rings it from the clock room that is on what would be the second story, and that the Lee Chapel was constructed around the bell, as the bell is too large to be remove.

Come see the Little Blue Truck and Donate Food

Stop by Medfield’s beloved Park Street Books on Saturday, May 23 between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM. Participants are encouraged to bring their camera and take a photo with the adorable blue truck as described in the popular children’s book The Little Blue Truck — a story by Alice Schertle about friends helping friends. While stopping by for a fun photo, please consider bringing a bag of food to donate to the Medfield Food Cupboard. Requested kid-friendly food items include: peanut butter, jelly, cereal, crackers, packets of oatmeal and cookies. Donors are encouraged to post their cute photos on Medfield Food Cupboard’s Facebook page. The rain date is set for Sunday, May 24.

Rolling Rally on 5/31 for MHS Grads

CLASS OF 2020 SENIOR CELEBRATION DAY Rolling Rally to honor Medfield H.S. Class of 2020! Please help honor the Medfield H.S. Seniors on what would have been their originally scheduled graduation day, May 31st. We are bringing the Medfield community together in a safe way to celebrate the Class of 2020. A Rolling Rally of cars will pass through town (see route on page 2) on Sunday, May 31st beginning at 1PM. Please pardon any road closures that may impact your travel during this time. If you would like to watch the Rally roll by, please park at a location near the route and view from your car. The safety of our community is a priority for this event and social distancing guidelines should be adhered to by all. To honor members of the Class of 2020 who may live in your neighborhood, we welcome you to decorate your house with Warrior pride.
