Osler ”Pete” Peterson
Medfield Select Board member
I started this blog to share the interesting and useful information that I saw while doing my job as a Medfield select board member. I thought that my fellow Medfield residents would also find that information interesting and useful as well. This blog is my effort to assist in creating a system to push the information out from the Town House to residents. Let me know if you have any thoughts on how it can be done better.
For information on my other job as an attorney (personal injury, civil litigation, estate planning and administration, and real estate), please feel free to contact me at 617-969-1500 or Osler.Peterson@OslerPeterson.com.

New Life 5k Virtual Trail Run
From Tod Dimmick for the New Life Furniture Bank –

The 2021 New Life 5K hopes to offer both virtual andย in-person components
The fourth annual New Life 5K Trail Run will take place this spring. Theย event benefits New Life Furniture Bank of MA and its missionย to provide essential home furnishings to individuals and families whoย are transitioning out of homelessness.
The New Life 5k in all its forms is open to runners, walkers and everyoneย in between. ย Each year the event brings out hundreds ofย enthusiastic supporters. Last year, the โVirtual 5kโ was a tremendousย success, after organizers offered one of the firstย virtual races in Massachusetts. Virtualย runners participated last year from as far away as Australia. This year,ย the organizers hope that participants will have the choice of whether toย participate in-person on May 8th at Medfield State Hospital, orย virtuallyย between April 17th and May 8th.
The in-person component will only occur ifย Massachusetts moves into the stage of Phase 4 that allows Road Races.ย ย The organizers will determine whether or not the in-person eventย will occur by April 30thย (If the in-person event isย not permitted, in-person registrations will become virtual registrations).ย The in-person 5k Trail Run will include measures to ensure safe participation,ย including staggered start timesย throughout the day on May 8th. ย ย
The virtual component will be structured much like lastย year. Participants create their own 5k route, or use fitness appsย like MapMyRun and Strava, and then complete their routeย anytime between April 17 and May 8. Participants can log their times onย RaceWire. On May 9, results will be posted and awards will be given.
New Life Furniture Bank of MA collects high-quality gently-used furnitureย and household essentials that are made available at no cost to individualsย and families transitioning out of homelessness. New Life has remainedย vigilant throughout the pandemicย and has continued to serve people in needย by finding creative and safe ways to operate online and withย minimal contact. ย In 2020, New Life served almostย 500 families. ย The Medfield-basedย not-for-profit organization operates a Walpole Donation Center,ย andย serves the MetroWest and Greater Boston area. New Life provides aย meaningful option for folks who are downsizing, renovating or disposing ofย a loved oneโs property to donate their gently used goods and furniture.
Registration is open at www.newlifefb.org/5k, with discounts forย registration before April 12, and for teams of four or more. ย Theย registration fee is $25 โearly birdโ and $30 regular. T-Shirts willย be available for an additional fee. Those interestedย in being aย sponsor, volunteering, donating home furnishings, orย making a financial contribution are encouraged to visitย www.newlifefb.org.

Halloween

The Board of Health is asking that residents follow the CDC and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidance in order to most safely celebrate Halloween amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With these guidelines in mind, the Board of Health recommends you keep Halloween activities outside, maintain social distancing, wear a protective face mask (instead of, or in addition to, a costume mask), and maintain good hand washing. As a reminder, any Halloween activities are subject toย Governor Baker’s order on gathering size limits.ย
