Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund grant applications open until 3/17

MEDFIELD FOUNDATION LEGACY FUND NOW ACCEPTING
NON-PROFIT GRANT APPLICATIONS
The Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund has announced that applications are now being
accepted for its 2023 Community Impact Grants. Up to $30,000 in grants will be
awarded, and any Medfield-based nonprofit or Town department is eligible. Applicants
are welcome to submit a grant request online at https://www.medfieldfoundation.org/ by
March 17, 2023.
The Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund Community Board will review all submissions
and select the finalists who will be invited to PITCH IT!, a Shark Tank-type event to be
held in person on April 12, 2023. At PITCH IT!, applicants will present their proposal,
goals, and financial needs and directly engage with the Community Board on their
projects. The Community Board will make its final selection of grant recipients for the
2023 funding round in early May, 2023.
This year marks the third round of Legacy Fund Community Impact grants. To date,
over $48,000 has been awarded to seven organizations, including the Cultural Alliance
of Medfield, the Friends of the MHS Theatre Society, the Friends of the Medfield Rail
Trail, Medfield Cares About Prevention, Medfield Outreach, The Peak House Heritage
Center, and Sustainable Medfield.
Grantees have used their awards to further important projects in Medfield and, in some
cases, to leverage significant additional resources such as matching grants or federal or
state funding. This year’s applicants should be prepared to illustrate a strong and
compelling current need for funds, and possibly present how those funds may generate
additional investments in the Medfield community as well.
Act fast to take advantage of this spectacular opportunity!

Gov. Healey releases FY2024 budget proposal

Today Gov. Maura Healey filed her $55.5 billion state budget plan for fiscal 2024, which includes funding for local accounts that she announced last week.

Healey’s proposal, known as House 1, would increase the main discretionary local aid account by 2% over fiscal 2023, while increasing Chapter 70 school aid by $586 million, which would fund commitments made in the 2019 Student Opportunity Act. The governor also proposed increases for regional school transportation, vocational school transportation, special education reimbursements, payments-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT), transportation of students in temporary housing, library aid, and rural school aid.

Breaking News from the MMA

House OK’s budget bill with pandemic extensions Today the House passed a redrafted version of a $282 million supplemental 2023 budget bill filed by Gov. Maura Healey in January that includes a majority of her “immediate needs” bond bill, as well as extensions of pandemic-related authorizations related to public meetings and outdoor dining.

The House bill’s $585 million in bonding authorizations include $400 million for the MassWorks Infrastructure Program and $104 million for the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust.

The House included an MMA priority — extensions to pandemic-related authorizations that were set to expire within the next month. The bill would:
• Permit remote and hybrid meeting options for public bodies through March 31, 2025
• Permit remote voting options for representative town meetings through March 31, 2025
• Permit reduced quorums for open town meetings through March 31, 2025
• Extend an expedited process for temporary permits for outdoor dining service and to-go cocktails through April 1, 2024 Twitter Facebook Website     Copyright © 2023 Massachusetts Municipal Association, All rights reserved.

MEA – Climate Week

From MEA –

February 15, 2023

Hello Medfield Friends,

Medfield Environment Action (MEA) is organizing Medfield’s first ever ‘Climate Week’ from Saturday, April 29 through Sunday, May 7. Many neighboring towns have held similar ‘Climate Weeks’ with great results, and community stakeholders are coming together to plan this in our town! There are several other events happening alongside Medfield Climate Week, including Bellforge’s Fairy Walk, Daffodil Days, and Medfield Town Meeting.

‘Medfield Climate Week’ will consist of multiple independent events throughout the week, all showcasing climate awareness with local actions and initiatives.  Any community groups, business owners, individual residents, town departments, churches, clubs, schools, or classrooms may become ‘Event Captains’ hosting their own public event. MEA will support you by coordinating and publishing the week’s schedule and will help to advertise your events to a local audience, in Medfield and surrounding towns. Plans are already in the works for a clothing swap, electric car show and several solar panel open houses.

MEA is actively seeking ‘Event Captains’ to lead the following:  bike to school day and heat pump info sharing. Possible ‘Event’ ideas for you/your group could be: eco lawn equipment demonstration, composting demonstration, native and/or low water use garden tour, meatless meal specials at restaurants, climate book readings, climate themed art (painting, recycled materials sculptures, cartoons) nature walks/scavenger hunts, outdoor clean-up events, show off your chickens, compost pile or beehives or anything else you might like to offer.

Thanks for considering. The goal is to have fun, spread awareness, educate, and network with neighbors. Let us know if you want to become an event captain, or if you would like to help other event captains who are hosting. As an ‘Event Captain’ you choose the event to be offered, and set the times and dates for your event, when it is convenient for you. Times can be an hour or two on several afternoons, a one-time half day event on a weekend, or a morning get together over coffee. Whatever works for you. Climate awareness and action is the one required unifying theme. Be creative!

Please fill out this form by March 12th with your proposed event idea and contact information. No need to have all final details available. We would love to get your ideas as soon as possible and we can work with you to build it out. We look forward to hearing from you and reach out to us at meamedfield@gmail.com if you have any questions.

 Best,

Medfield’s Climate Week Team

Hunter’s Run coming April 2

From Matt Parillo –

Hunter’s Run Foundation

Home

Hunter’s Run Foundation was founded by Kristen Williams.  It serves to bring awareness to Organ Donation.  Kristen Williams’  14 year old son is a two time double lung transplant recipient.  Hunter had his first transplant at 21 months old.  He was blessed to have his second in July of 2015. In late 2022, Hunter had a kidney removed and is battling cancer. He is undergoing chemotherapy but still enjoys getting out and exercising all that his body will allow him. Hunter is hoping to be able to ride his bike around the course this year!!

We are so excited to announce April 2, 2023 will be the 8th Aunnual Hunter’s 5K Run and 1 mile Fun Run. This is Hunter’s Run Foundation’s  8th consecutive year raising funds for Boston Children’s PediatricTransplant Center. These funds go to familes who are currently in the hospital with their sick child. Funds go to help with housing, food, and parking amonst other family needs (as Boston Children’s sees fit). These funds help families focus on what is important during which could be the most tramatic time in their life.  Our 2022 donations allowed us to gift Boston Children’s Hospital $10,000. We also donated to Donate Life New England. We hope to do the same in 2023!!!

Hunter’s Run Foundation’s mission is to bring awareness to the importance of Organ Donation.  It also serves to help various organizations such as Boston Children’s Hospital and Donate Life.
