Legacy of Passion: The Peter Kenny Story
Peter Kenny’s story is one full of love, ambition, and passion for the Medfield Community. As Medfield TV’s Sports Director from 2007-2010, Peter’s dedication to his community never wavered, even while battling cancer.
His legacy lives on through the Peter Kenny Memorial Scholarship, given annually to Medfield High School Seniors who explore their passions through volunteering at Medfield TV.
Watch Legacy of Passion: The Peter Kenny Story on YouTube to hear his story through the voices of his family, friends, and past scholarship winners.

The 2024 Grant Recipients of the Medfield Foundation’s Legacy Fund celebrated with midyear reports at the Zullo Gallery on Thursday night, December 5th. 2024 Legacy Fund Grants were awarded to the Peak House Heritage Center for a Traveling Trunk exhibit, Medfield TV for Podcast Equipment and the Dwight Derby House for their East Parlor Project, honoring one of its extraordinary residents, Mary Derby.
Director of the Gallery, Bill Pope, welcomed everyone to the Zullo, which received a Legacy Fund Grant itself in 2023 for the creation of an innovative Augmented Reality Exhibit. According to Pope, the exhibit is still hosted on the internet and can be seen around town with the app, Hoverlay.
This year’s Legacy Grants have already made a big difference. The excitement was gushing from Wheelock’s 3rd grade teachers about their plans for the Traveling Trunk as a multidiscipline time capsule in their 3rd grade curriculum.
And the energy for the Dwight Derby House has been transformed. Their East Parlor Project will honor Mary Derby, a single mother who ran a bonnet manufacturing business from her home while raising a son destined for greatness.
To paraphrase Rob Babson of the Peak House Heritage Center, he said, “Thanks to the grants from the MFi Legacy Fund, impressive talent has been brought to Medfield and ‘cross pollinated,’ amplifying and raising the quality of our offerings and excitement for our town.”
Stay tuned for news on Legacy Fund’s next “Call for Grant Applications.” To learn more, visit MedfieldFoundation.org.
The MFi’s key fundraiser, the Angel Run 5K / Run / Walk is happening this Sunday, December 8th at 11:30am at the Medfield High School. Come celebrate the season and support a great cause!
The Medfield Foundation is a volunteer run 501-(c)(3) nonprofit charitable corporation whose mission is to build community by supporting nonprofit initiatives, raising funds for those in need and distributing grants that positively impact Medfield.
The MFi Legacy Fund is a professionally managed, community-supported Endowment Fund empowering residents to make permanent gifts to improve the community and town of Medfield. Through a competitive “Pitch It” process, Medfield based non-profit initiatives or town agencies can apply for grants to benefit the town. To date, almost $100,000 in grants have been given away. Planned gifts to the MFi Legacy Fund are encouraged and will keep the granting going strong.

Friday evening I was fortunate to be invited a pre-release showing of the Medfield TV movie, “The Open Door Policy,” a documentary about Mike Sullivan at The Center. The movie recounts Mike’s career as the long time Town Administrator by means of interviews with those with whom Mike worked. Former selectman and current town historian, Richard DeSorgher was positioned as the de facto narrator. There were also clips of Mike at BoS meetings and at town meetings.
About sixty people attended, more than half were Mike’s family, including many nieces and nephews, and their families, as well as his brother Dennis Sullivan, who had flown up from Virginia to attend. The balance in attendance were the town employees who had been interviewed for the movie and the Medfield TV staff who had distilled the hours of video interviews to create the movie. I know that my interview lasted for about an hour, and accounted for only maybe two minutes in the movie.
The world premier of the movie will be this coming Friday at the Medfield High School auditorium.
It was nice to see that my neighbor, Olivia Deval, got credit in the movie for her production assistance work on it. Olivia interned at Medfield TV while at MHS, graduated last June, and is now at Babson.

Chris Allan nominated for the Medfield Foundation volunteer lifetime achievement award
I would like to nominate Christopher Allan for the Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his work with the Annual Town Meeting. An Audio Engineer by profession, Chris has volunteered his time, expertise and personal equipment to outfit each town meeting with the best possible audio quality available. He is currently spending the month in PyeongChang, South Korea, as the lead Audio mixer for Figure Skating & Short Track Speed Skating events televised via NBC from the Gangneung Ice Arena. Although his work takes him away from Medfield for weeks, even months, at a time, he always finds time in his travel schedule to be home for the town meeting. He handles the microphone and speaker setup, interfacing with the school system when possible, and mixes the output to ensure that Medfield residents have the best chance to understand the Warrant Committe’s recommendation as well as make their voices heard during the meeting.
In the past, he also sat on the board of Medfield.TV (“Cable 8”) and worked on the broadcasts for residents that could not make the town meeting in person. He had also worked the Cable 8 Thanksgiving Day High School football game broadcast as well as the Graduation Ceremonies for years.
The public is invited to the reception to honor all the nominated volunteers at 3PM on Sunday April 8 at The Center. The Medfield Foundation volunteer awards are made possible through the sponsorship of Roche Bros. and Brothers Marketplace, as well as a contribution for Rockland Trust.

Medfield TV is Live Again
This email from Medfield TV about fixing its problem –
=======================================
Selectmen and Town Administrator,
I am very happy to say that the issues with our Selectmen Meetings has been resolved. We were getting interference sending out our signal back to the station through the Town’s Network. We hooked up a separate router that allowed us to better our flow back to the station to send out our signal.
Thank you for you patience both from the Selectmen and the Town.
I started this blog to share the interesting and useful information that I saw while doing my job as a Medfield select board member. I thought that my fellow Medfield residents would also find that information interesting and useful as well. This blog is my effort to assist in creating a system to push the information out from the Town House to residents. Let me know if you have any thoughts on how it can be done better.
For information on my other job as an attorney (personal injury, civil litigation, estate planning and administration, and real estate), please feel free to contact me at 617-969-1500 or Osler.Peterson@OslerPeterson.com.
