Angel Run 2018 – Register Now

Greetings Angel Run Friends,

Join us for the 13th running (or walking) of the Angel Run on Sunday, December 2 at 12:30pm!

Registration for the MFi Angel Run is officially open. Registration is available online for $25.00 per person at MedfieldFoundation.org/angel-run and runs through October 28. Register by this date to receive the always popular commemorative Angel Run shirt. After October 28 you can still register online, however the price goes up to $30.00 per person and you will not receive a shirt.

Once again this year we will be offering bib tag timing to provide you the most accurate time possible and a special separate starting corral for competitive runners. You decide if you should belong to that group. Be sure to note this on your registration.

We’ve also got great news to share as well. With the completion of the Philips Street bridge, the Angel Run will be returning to our official 5K route. A map of the route is available when you register or on our website.

New this year – The Sleigh Division!

This year runners pushing strollers can register for the Sleigh Division. Just like Santa speeds through the night with his sleigh, we know that some of our runners speed through the streets of Medfield with their Sleighs (strollers)! Awards will be given for the top male and female runners pushing a sleigh and also for the best decorated sleigh.

Anna Mae O’Shea Brooke has been organizing the Yarn4Hope effort on behalf of the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention, to bring greater awareness to September being suicide prevention month.  This is her email –

I hope you drove through town this week and saw the #yarn4hope installation.  Here are some photos:

I think that it is impactful while also being perfectly understated; a balance of beauty and hope. Each piece possesses a story or rather an intention from the person who created the pieces.  We had over 30 pieces made from students, teachers, school staff, parents, empty nesters and knitting circles from the Council on Aging and St. Edward; a true community effort!  Blake Middle School teacher, Diane Horvath, was the visionary and orchestrated all of this!

 

I hope that this installation brings awareness and compels people to either get educated to recognize the signs and for those who are suffering, to seek help…some may think this is naive, but we must stay stedfast in our desire to prevent more deaths by suicide.

QPR suicide prevention training 6/16

The Council on Aging in conjunction with the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention invites interested community members to attend a FREE suicide prevention training taught by Riverside Trauma Center. The training is intended to help address this public health crisis by raising awareness of suicidal behavior and teaching tools that can help prevent suicide. I have now taken the QPR training twice, once with NewtonCares and once in Medfield, and I can attest to how useful I found it at teaching me how to react and what to do if ever presented with a suicidal person.

Volunteer Treasurer and Sponsorship Coordinator Opportunities

Medfield’s number one family fun event since 2006, the Medfield Foundation Angel Run, has two openings for organized and motivated individuals to fill the roles of:

  • Treasurer
  • Sponsorships

The treasurer is the bigger role – experience is helpful, but really just need people who are detail-oriented and willing to help out. The Angel Run is held annually at the beginning of December, attracts 1500 participants, and raises money for Medfield families in need.

ATTENTION!  There are only 8 days left to register on-line for the New Life 5k!

Do you LOVE the Angel Run? Then we think you’re going to LOVE New Life Furniture Bank’s “1st Annual New Life 5k Trail Run”.

This fundraising event will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 5th at the scenic Medfield State Hospital grounds. The event is open to the public, and all ages are encouraged to RUN, JOG OR WALK in this family-friendly event.

ON-LINE REGISTRATION CLOSES MAY 3RD. Last minute registration WILL BE open on the morning of the event.

Passing along this good news.  The Town and its consultant, Environmental Partners Group, won an award this evening from the American Council of Engineering Companies for the replacement of the water storage tank at the former Medfield State Hospital.

 

The award was presented at their annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala.  The award notes “Reaching new heights modernizing water infrastructure on an historic site”.

 

Congratulations to EPG and the Medfield Public Works Department.

 

Btw, Medfield’s roads have looked great these past two snow storms.  Kudos to the Department for that too.
