May is Mental Health Awareness Month The Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention, an Initiative of The Medfield Foundation Inc. administered by Medfield Youth Outreach invite you to join their 2020 Medfield Shows their Heart Campaign… Together we can end mental health stigma by spreading awareness, education, understanding, stories and resources. We are showing solidarity and togetherness, even as we remain physically distant. In the spirit of relaxation and free time enjoyment, we would like to invite you at a painting session to reproduce Van Gogh's, Starry Night, graciously hosted by Karen Johnson, known painter and teacher in town on Sunday, 5/17/2020, at 11am on zoom. Please sign up by emailing medfieldyouthoutreach@medfield.net, or by phone 508-359-7121 (please, leave a message if we do not pick up) and let us know if you need supplies as we can offer everything needed for up to 24 participants. Families can do it together as a group, friends can participate separately and compare, but only the instructor will be visible on Zoom. If supplies are needed, please, let us know your address and we will drop off at your house- canvas, acrylic paint, brush and pallet. MMA Zoom meeting

I attended at noon today a meeting of the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s Massachusetts Select Board Association (NB – MSA changed its name this year from “Selectmen”).  Bleak news about the state budget and the financial aid we will get from the state next fiscal year starting July 1 – may be down 20% this coming year.  The legislative delegation is coming to the Select Board meeting next Tuesday to personally share the bad news.

The only good news was at the end of this slide –

State Revenue and Budget Outlook
• Legislature has Announced that the Fiscal 2021 Budget Process is Delayed
• Administration & Legislative Budget Writers Held New Revenue
Hearing to Revisit Revenue Forecast, with $4B to $6B Shortfall Estimated
• State Budget Process Unclear (Joint Budget? Temporary Budgets?)
• GOOD NEWS … $3.5 Billion in the State Rainy Day Fund should Help to
Mitigate Fiscal 2020 Revenue Shortfalls (and Increased Expenditures)
• GOOD NEWS … Massachusetts Received $2.67 Billion from the Federal
CARES Act to Pay for Unexpected/Unbudgeted COVID-19 Expenses

Aura approved by ZBA

Mayrock’s 56 Unit 40B Project Called “Aura” Approved Today by ZBA for the Former Legion Site

Today the Zoning Board of Appeals issued its decision approving the 56 unit 40B rental complex called the Aura, to be constructed at the site of the former Legion.  The development both hopefully creates an endowment for the Legion from the purchase price and reportedly allows the Legion the use of the Aura’s common room facility for the Legion’s meetings.

Per the decision, “The Project shall consist of thirty-one (31) one-bedroom units, nineteen (19) two-bedroom units, and six (6) three-bedroom units”

The full decision can be read via the following link – Decision 1386 – Mayrock – Legion-50 Peter Kristof

AP ART & DESIGN – Virtual Gallery 2020

Per Kate Jones, K-12 Art Department Chair, the Medfield High School AP Studio teacher, Meg Drew, curated this virtual student show and designed its layout.  Well done Ms. Drew!

From Jean Mineo –

I want to share with you Medfield High School’s AP Art Exhibit which was put together by our K-12 Art Department Chair Kate Jones.
I think the work is stunningly mature and powerfully represents their emotions, dreams and interpretations of the world around and within them. Since the only way to see the work is virtually, we’d appreciate your sharing in whatever ways are appropriate.
