It’s working!

The Town House notification of meetings has started to work.  Sign up at the town website to get email notice of town meetings like the one below, on which the links will be live and take you to the Town website notice for that meeting, where the time will be displayed.  It would be good to eventually have the time and meeting location in the email notice  –

Scrip at Park Street Books

Flyer from Scrip –

SCRIP AT PARK STREET BOOKS IN APRIL 2013!

SCRIP cards will be available for purchase at Park Street Books starting in April of this year. Jim James will be offering the Scrip (MSSP) box for card purchase and order drop off in an effort to further support Medfield Public Schools. The box will be available when he opens at his new location on Main St. in April and will operate in the same manner as the Lords Box did in the past.

In the interim, until his Main Street location opens, SCRIP cards are
available for purchase directly from your school box rep or by contacting Cathy Chung directly at papachung3@aol.com.
Cathy is selling cards from the old Lords Box directly, in addition to her Blake responsibilities, and can take all your orders via email until its available at Park Street Books. All orders will go to MSSP and be divided amongst the 5 schools evenly.

We appreciate your continued support of SCRIP during this transition period. If anyone has any SCRIP questions, please feel free to contact us at scrip@medfieldcsa.org

Many Thanks!

Kristen Giordano
MSSP Coordinator

Read at Memorial School

It is Reads Across America today, a national reading out loud day, because it is close to Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  To celebrate, Memorial School invites community people in to read to the children.

I had the honor and fun of reading The Tub People to Kristen’s former  kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Hedberg’s class, sitting where I sat with Kristen eight years ago.  However, Mrs. Hedberg has a really cool looking Smart Board that was not there eight years ago.

North & Green Sts. status

I queried Ken Feeney at the BoS meeting last night about what will happen when on North Street and Green Street, while he was in to discuss his budgets, and this is his expected time frame:

  • 2013 – water main will be replaced in Green Street, and North Street paving will be improved, similar to the gas line trench on the East side of North Street.
  • The final upgrades to both streets is uncertain, as it depends on when Mass Highway gives Medfield both its approval and its money.  Ken said that the project is 85% planned out, and that the DPW consultant, HNTB, is good at getting Mass Highway to move on projects, but I was left with a general impression that we both (1) just do not know the timing, but (2) that it is not likely to be soon, and we should not be holding our breath as to when that final reconstruction will happen.
  • Most beaver activity near the swim pond is farther up stream, but Mike said he will ask the town trapper to investigate the area, as there are reports of high water levels in the area of Green and Brook Streets.

I also asked Ken to give the BoS a primer after the annual town meeting (ATM) on “best road repair practices,” so that the town can make sure that we are getting the longest street longevity for the least money.  Ken is a designated “Roads Scholar” from his attendance at Mass Highway programs.

Chinese take out locating on North St.

I spoke to the owner of the proposed Chinese food take out restaurant on Saturday that is looking to move into the old fish store on North Street.  I asked him about what it would be. He gave me his card and explained that he has been in Wellesley for years as China Sky, and that one of his customers suggested the Medfield space to him. See www.chinaskyrestaurant.com.

Years ago, the Downtown Study Committee consultant’s report suggested that the businesses on that block open themselves up to the parking in the middle of the block, which sounds like what was presented to the planning board, and that block become the center of the downtown.  I hope the plans call for a customer door to the back parking lot.

Joe Kennedy & Jim Timilty at 3/10 volunteer recognition

Congressman Joseph Kennedy’s and Senator James Timilty’s offices have indicated that each will attend the Medfield Foundation volunteer of the year recognition reception at 4:00 PM on 3/10/13 at The Center.

The annual volunteer recognition reception event is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation, with refreshments provided by Whole Foods Market and Blue Moon Bagel Café.
