Roche Bros to Lord’s site

Roche Bros. has rented the former Lord’s space and will be opening the first of its new smaller concept food stores.  The Board of Selectmen were provided two alternate plans, but both contain a Lord’s Café, a bakery, sections for prepared foods, produce, seafood, dairy, frozen, and general merchandise.  I cannot think of a better tenant for Medfield to have in its downtown, or one that will be as big a draw for business.  The downtown businesses should benefit from the additional traffic this will generate.

MSH mediation – most important item

This was the slide from the MSH mediation report with the most important items, to my mind (see all the slides) –

Additional Components

• Building Demolition:

Odyssey House
Carriage House
Laundry Building

• Legislative Support:

Water tower land and well field

• Police/Fire River Access: Rail Road Trestle

• Ongoing Collaboration

• Public input

Dunkin’ Donuts

The Dunkin’ Donuts being sited at the Friendly’s site is apparently actively moving forward, after what has seemed like a long hiatus.  Permitting activity has been going forward with the town, so good to see progress.

On being a selectman

Busy time as a selectman –

  • MSH Clean Up Mediation Committee and DCAMM joint meeting to report to the town a week ago yesterday.  Excellent report on excellent results, crafted and achieved by the hard work by our committee and DCAMM both.  I am expecting the written report to arrive soon, so we can be prepared to discuss it at the Board of Selectmen meeting next Tuesday.  See their report here.
  • my first Friday of the month selectman office hours at The Center (9-10AM) a week ago, with lots of customers
  • Lyme Disease Study Committee Monday night – well run deer management program, that is looking to add more private lands
  • yesterday was a marathon day of selectman work, starting with Medfield Cares About Prevention (MCAP) meeting in the morning, Girl Scout Bridging Ceremony in the evening, followed by the first meeting of the  Committee for the Collaborative Reuse of the MSH, to prepare for our first meeting with DCAMM next Monday about the town purchase of the MSH site – I spent five hours on selectman tasks that day, and ate dinner at 9:45PM.

Mosquito larvicide spraying 6/13, due to heavy rains

This email from Norfolk County Mosquito Control about new spraying of larvicide –

Subject: Floodplain Aerial Application 6/13/13
Importance: High

Good Morning;

The NCMCD is planning on conducting an aerial larvicide application this Thursday (6/13/13)  to control mosquito larvae hatched from the heavy flooding rains of last Friday night.  We are still in the planning stages, so it is not clear where the exact locations to be targeted are yet, but we will post maps of our proposed sites by Wednesday.  This application is a one day application and will take place over the larger river floodplains.  Since the application will take place over the floodplains, it will be much less noticeable to the public than our spring aerial larvicide that we conduct in April.  Please note that this is not a ‘spray’ to control adult mosquitoes, but is a granular application of a biological larvicide, applied to the wetlands, which is toxic only to mosquito and black fly larvae.

If you have any questions or concerns; please contact the office.

MSH mediated clean up

The Town of Medfield’s Mediation Committee and DCAMM jointly presented their proposed solution to the clean up of the C & D area at the Medfield State Hospital at a meeting held at The Center last Thursday.  Bill Massaro has written up the following report, with links to the hand outs –

Ben Lester’s disc golf

Ben Lester gives out the prizes at the first Albert Lester Memorial Disc Golf Tournament at McCarthy Park this afternoon, held to raise awareness about impaired driving and money to prevent substance abuse.  Proceeds go to MCAP via the MFi.

M$H mediation report

In the photo Carole Cornelison describes the new elements of the mediated clean up of the C&D area at the MSH, which appear on the screen behind her.  The plan calls for removal of most of the contaminated materials out of the wetlands and burying and capping them on site in the former area that was dug out to build the power plant.  The power plant has been demolished.  The landscape design creates beautiful river overlooks.

Keyless car hack

Hackers learn how to get into your keyless entry car….

 http://m.technologyreview.com/news/422298/car-theft-by-antenna/

Besides the criminal implications, the civil law will have to adapt to this new problem, as  there is no sign of forced entry, so can the insurance company deny a theft claim by saying you failed to lock your car ?

And, leaving your garage door opener in the car will make getting into your house even easier.
