Angel Run Sunday at 2PM – run or help!

Angel Run chairs

We are in the home stretch in preparing for the MFi Angel Run. With over 1,000 preregistered runners and a sunny day in the forecast we expect a great crowd.

We still need lots of goodies for the post race party. Many can be bought: water, hot cocoa mix, snack bags or home baked. This is Medfield’s finest weekend starting with the Christmas tree lighting, Saturday’s parade and ending with the Angel Run on Sunday. Be an angel and sign up for a small volunteer job!

Many thanks from the Medfield Foundation.

Medfield Native Returns with Original Piece of Theater

Michael Norton, playwright and actor, is a graduate of Medfield High School Class of 2010. Michael is bringing his new play to Medfield this Thanksgiving. His new work is specially written with Medfield in mind and should be a big hit for lifelong Medfieldians young and old.

He says of the new work, “almost forgot the phalanx of fire: A Wine-and-Cheese Experiment in Three Parts is a solo performance that tears apart the text of a classic Russian play, a lecture-gone-wrong, a forgotten essay about Medfield, and a story of mysterious letters in an attempt to define that peculiar sensation we call “home.”

Tickets are online at www.keithcurbow.com/special-programs.html You can receive 30% with the promo code- medfieldians.

Gateway opening

Gateway-1

This morning was the official ribbon cutting and opening of the new Charles River overlook dubbed the Gateway at Medfield.  Over one hundred people gathered in the strong fall winds at Medfield’s newest jewel, high above the Charles –  some walked, some rode bikes, and some came on horses.  Richared DeSorgher officiated with a loud speaker’s voice honed by years in the classroom.

Richard declared it Arbor Day in town, reading the proclamation citing teh 55 trees planted at the site, and then introduced the series of speakers:

  • Carol Gladstone, DCAMM Commissioner
  • Carol I. Sanchez, DCR Commissioner (see photo below)
  • Mike Francis, TTOR Superintendent
  • Bob Zimmerman, CRWA Executive Director

Gateway-3

Bill Massaro, John Thompson, and John Harney were signaled out repeatedly for their efforts that turned the ship of the Massachusetts state away from its less expensive, simplistic, but legally sufficient cap and cover formulaic clean up, to the result that has created the state’s newest park, with dramatic views down to the Charles River below and the largest recreated wetlands in the history of the river.

Even the ruins of the old pump house has been made interesting –

The Angel Run is all about helping Medfield residents in need and the Medfield Foundation motto is “Building Community” and we can’t do that without you.

Moxie Strings concert 3/19 at MHS

From the Medfield Music Association –

The Moxie Strings to perform in Medfield

2015-03-11_12-13-28

The nationally known music of The Moxie Strings is coming to Medfield for a special performance from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 19 in the MHS Lowell Mason Auditorium.

Tickets for The Moxie Strings are on sale at Park Street Books — $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens; they are also available online at medfieldmusicassociation.com.

The trio – known for its “electrifying combination” of a fiddler, cellist and drummer/percussionist – will travel from Michigan to perform for the Medfield community and conduct day-time clinics for Medfield orchestra students.

“This is a unique opportunity to see a nationally known music group right here in Medfield. Fans of live music will not want to miss it. Prior to the concert our music students will be treated to valuable hands-on learning from the nationally acclaimed act,” said Brenna Hayden, Orchestra Director for Medfield Public Schools.

The Moxie Strings consists of fiddler, Diana Ladio; cellist, Alison Lynn; and drummer/percussionist Fritz McGirr. They are known for their “feel-good melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms”, and their ability to put a fresh and enticing spin on Celtic and Americana music.

Ladio, Lynn and McGirr hold Bachelor of Music degrees in music performance and music education, which have given each the technical foundation to explore the limits of his/her instrument, and helped the group build a reputation for musical excellence. The Moxie Strings write the majority of their pieces, and also arrange traditional tunes from many countries.

The Moxie Strings have taught enrichment clinics in over 60 schools throughout the U.S., and have also presented on their research and methodologies to many teachers at music education professional development conferences. Through their clinics Ladio and Lunn aim to create equipped creative well rounded musicians.

The Moxie Strings event is supported in part by a grant from the Medfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The Medfield Music Association is also helping to sponsor the program.

Free concert at UCC Saturday at 7PM

Email today from David Domeshek –

Wanted to let you know about a fun concert in Medfield this Saturday at 7pm, featuring some really good musicians playing an “eclectic” program of pop, R&B, “great American songbook” standards, gospel and blues. Heidi Willson, a wonderful singer, will front a 9-piece band comprising professional musicians — oh yes, and me (the amateur who’s in way over his head!) — many of whom Heidi knows from her days in the U.S. Navy Band (no slouch outfit).

The concert begins at 7pm sharp in the sanctuary at UCC Medfield (496 Main Street – Rte. 109), and will run about an hour. Best of all, it’s FREE.

If you’re around and available, hope to see you there!
