The endowment is being raised through “Founders,” who commit to contributing at least $5,000 over five years.
Sarah Henken said “We are delighted to join with the Medfield Foundation to help Medfield by means of the Legacy Fund, and we hope other businesses will consider participating as well. HWC is honored to be the first Civic Founder.” The Civic Founders are businesses who contribute at the Founder level.
If you too appreciate your Medfield community and would like to leave more of your mark on Medfield’s future, please consider becoming a Founder of the Medfield Foundation Legacy Fund. See more about the Legacy Fund at http://medfieldfoundation.org/legacy-fund/.

From Susan Maritan, Medfield Food Cupboard Publicist –

Dear Friends of the Medfield Food Cupboard,
We are starting off the New Year with a big THANK YOU to the Medfield community for its overwhelming support during this most unsettling year. The outpouring of generosity this holiday season will be remembered as the one with the biggest impact in our 29-year history.
The entire town – individuals, businesses, faith-based organizations, schools, town departments, and community service groups – pitched in with monetary donations, food, and volunteer hours to ensure we remained open and that our shelves, refrigerator, and freezer were filled. Your efforts continue to make a difference every day in the lives of over 200 residents who rely on us for emergency and supplemental food.
We served more households and children than ever before, a significant accomplishment given Covid restrictions. Your support provided needed relief to individuals and families facing financial hardships and created a happy holiday for many children, seniors, and parents. Community groups provided presents, stockings, blankets, hand-knitted gloves and hats, pies and breads, Christmas trees, gingerbread house kits, and passes to the Winter Light Show, to those who otherwise may have gone without.
We look forward to working together in 2021 as we continue to operate under the challenges of this pandemic and strive to meet increased demand for our services. Your meaningful gifts of money, food, and time are helping to alleviate food insecurity for our neighbors in need. Gratitude from clients, smiles on children’s faces, dinners on tables, and food in the cupboard for tomorrow’s meals are the best start to a New Year for one and all. Thank you, dear neighbors, for making this possible.
Susan Gorog and Tracey Rogers
Co-Presidents, Medfield Food Cupboard

Colleen Sullivan’s article in the Medfield Patch –

Although this time of year is stressful for most people it can be devastating for those struggling with a temporary crisis of some kind and this year with the added stresses of COVID-19, “Medfield Helping Hands” hopes to get more Medfield residents to join in helping their neighbors in need.https://72490c44d4a364f5c538a333c0a49828.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-37/html/container.html
Some people may remember this group when it was called “Medfield Angels” then it was became “Medfield Neighbor Brigade” and now it is the “Medfield Lotsa Helping Hands”. For many years this group of volunteers has been making meals for Medfield families dealing with a temporary crisis.
Joining simply means that you will be on an email list and receive notifications of local needs. Once you receive an email, you will log into your account and if possible sign up to help make and deliver a meal (you choose the date) based on the Volunteer Calendar provided.
The Medfield Helping Hands is a volunteer network that supports Medfield families in temporary crisis and they support other Medfield volunteer organizations as well.
Medfield residents, Katie Henebry, Kathleen Cahill and Laurie Nealon work with other organizations (Medfield Outreach and the Medfield Food Cupboard) to determine the needs in the community and they manage the Medfield Lotsa Helping Hands website.https://72490c44d4a364f5c538a333c0a49828.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-37/html/container.htmlSubscribe

From Susan Maritan –
A story of woe might be what you expect when you speak with Rich Purnell, Executive Director at New Life Furniture Bank of MA, when you ask him to recap this year at the non-profit. How could he and a group of volunteers successfully continue to serve clients coming out of homelessness in the midst of a pandemic?
“We had big plans for 2020,” said Purnell. “We were prepared to collect more home furnishings and reach more clients than ever before. Then COVID-19 hit Massachusetts, and New Life’s operations halted… but not for long. “We shut down for a week, revamped our operations, and reopened, thanks to a massive volunteer effort. I’m proud to say we were the first furniture bank in Massachusetts to maintain our mission with a new model and safety precautions.”
Purnell and his team adjusted their approach by switching from clients visiting in-person, to “shopping” at an online “store”. Purnell identified software that would work for the furniture bank. Volunteers upload photos of household goods so clients can make their choices virtually. After they “shop” on-line, other volunteers bundle and prepare the clients’ selections for pick-up, and the next day moving trucks pick up and deliver the goods to the clients’ apartments.
Many of New Life’s clients spent months or even years in homeless shelters before obtaining housing assistance. Most do not have the resources to obtain household furnishings and avoid debt without the help of a furniture bank.
Thursday, October 29th is the launch of the “Changing World. Changing Needs. Changing Lives.” campaign. These funds raised will enable New Life’s to serve more households.
“Although we don’t know what is coming in the days, weeks, and months ahead, it is our supporters that keep New Life innovating to meet the rising challenge,” said Purnell. “A gift of any amount will ensure that individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness have the necessary furniture and household items they need to live in security, comfort, and hope.”
Gifts may be made at newlifefb.org or by check payable to New Life Furniture Bank of MA, sent to P.O. Box 573, Medfield, MA 02052.
Thank you for your support.

In the month of October, community members can show their town spirit by signing up to have a special logo painted on their driveways. Between October 5 and November 15, let’s continue to be active.

Then, on November 19 at 8:00pm, MCPE launches its “Medfield Night In” series with a virtual flower arranging class in conjunction with Alice’s Table. All you need are scissors and water. Fall flowers and a decorative container will be delivered to your door, anywhere in the USA, the day before the class. Sign up now for one of the few remaining spots!

MCPE thanks their generous sponsors of these events, Will’s Hardware and Medfield Orthodontics.
