Fan Favorites First Place MAP Grades 4-5
From Kathleen Derian –
Hello Fairy Friends,
Thank you to everyone who participated in the fourth annual Fairy Walk. Despite the 3 times we had to postpone and the surprisingly windy weather the day of, we had a lovely day. A little over 500 people came to enjoy your houses, food and wares and the unicorn rides were a BIG hit!
I am so grateful for the incredible creativity, hard work and community spirit that made this event truly magical. A special thank you goes out to all the talented house creators whose enchanting fairy homes brought the trail to life and sparked wonder in every visitor. I am also deeply appreciative to the wonderful vendors, whose unique offerings and cheerful presence added joy and charm to the day.
All your fairy houses were incredibly well crafted and creatively designed. It made it difficult for the judges to make their choices.
Their results are listed below…
Most Creative Hattie Atkinson
Most Whimsical Livi Gazmani
Most Natural New -n- Towne
The Fan Favorites were…
First Place MAP Grades 4-5
Second Place British Miser and the Senior Ladies of Medfield
Third Place Charlotte and Abigail Smith
Honorable Mention Grace Finn
Most importantly, I want to extend heartfelt thanks to our generous sponsors, MEMO (Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization), Park and Rec department, especially Katie Walpert, and Amanda Russo from Montrose School. Your support made this event possible and helped bring the magic of the Fairy Walk to the whole community.
Now,as Spring blossoms and the flowers bloom, it is time for rest and relaxation
My heart is full…..

—
Best-
Kathleen

From Anna Mae O’Shea Brooke –

MCSP’s Path for Hope Walk this Sunday, May 4th
11:30 AM at the Medfield Rail Trail
Hosted by the Medfield Coalition for Suicide Prevention
This Mental Health Awareness Month of May, come walk with us as we build community, raise awareness, and honor those impacted by suicide. Path for Hope is more than just a walk; it’s a walk to foster community, connection and hope. It’s a show of support, a step toward healing, and a reminder that no one should walk alone in their struggles.
Sponsored by MCSP, a community-led coalition administered by Medfield Outreach, the Town of Medfield’s social service department. The mission of MCSP is to promote the mental health and emotional well-being of all community members. The vision of MCSP is to build a community where suicide, self-harm, and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care, and acceptance.
This free, family-friendly event is open to all. Donations are welcome to support the vital work of MCSP: www.medfieldfoundation.org/make-a-donation

Yesterday there was a fairy house event run by Kathleen Derian on the banks of Vine Brook at the Montrose School, that made hundreds of young kids really, really excited and happy. There were even pony rides on colorful unicorns!
The fairy house below was created by Kurt Jackson’s MAP kids, and was the largest and most elaborate of the fairy houses.

The Medfield Foundation Youth Leadership Program is now accepting applications for its 2025 Grant Program. Up to $1,000 in funding will be awarded, which may be awarded in full or divided among multiple recipients. Applicants are welcome to learn more about the grant process and to submit a grant request at https://forms.gle/y9Yy9svXdJAFdsEw7 by April 30th.
Just as the Medfield Foundation has its Legacy Fund endowment and its Pitch It! Grant Program, the MFi youth leaders team raised $1,000 in the fall of 2024 to award in its own process. The Youth Leadership Grant Program is our call for any and all ideas that will enrich the lives of those who call Medfield home. The youth leaders will review the applications, ask questions, interview the applicants, conduct site visits, and make final presentations to their youth leader teammates before voting on and selecting the winner(s). Funding decisions will be communicated to winners by May 30th.
Founded in 2014 by the Medfield Foundation Inc. (MFi), the MFi Youth Leadership program empowers high school students with a sense of philanthropy and volunteerism to take action in their community. From an early age, the town’s youngest residents have opportunities to make a difference in their community. Those opportunities continue to grow as children come of age in our town. The Medfield Foundation is responsible for many local fundraising initiatives. As part of its commitment to community involvement, MFi created this program where high school students could take that philanthropic spirit, run with it and gain leadership experience in the process. Our youth leaders support one of the Medfield Foundation’s largest signature events, The MFi Angel Run, in the fall. It provides a perfect opportunity to get involved and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to plan and manage a fundraising event. Then the winter/spring programming focuses on the grant process, including how to solicit proposals and how to review and award grants.

Proud to endorse the following statement from my most active bar group, the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, about both what it means to be an attorney and that we attorneys disavow the current assault on the rule of law by the federal government –

STATEMENT OF MASSACHUSETTS ACADEMY OF TRIAL ATTORNEYS
The Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys is a voluntary, non-profit, state-wide association of Massachusetts lawyers. Our mission is to preserve the American jury system, protect the health and safety of families, and to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
We echo what others have said: the current onslaught on the rule of law by the government threatens our way of life in this country, and political party has no place in either the defense of the rule of law, of the independence of the judiciary, or of the integrity of our profession. Those aspects of life in the country are critical pieces of the foundation of our democracy, and they are under violent attack – an attack that should not and cannot go unanswered. Like lawyers of all stripes, when licensed to practice law we swear an oath to uphold the Constitution and to discharge the obligations of the profession to the best of our ability. We undertake a solemn duty – not just to our clients, but to the legal system itself. That obligation requires us, irrespective of our political views or party affiliations, to be faithful stewards of the law; it compels us to raise our voices, stay engaged, and speak out in days like this.
History teaches that a steady, reliable rule of law has allowed this country’s corporations to lead the world in industry, technology, and development; for our scientists, scholars, and artists to contribute to the world as richly as they have; and for anyone – particularly those less fortunate – to be able to turn to the courts to vindicate their rights. We owe a special responsibility to stand up against the unprecedented onslaught wrought by the federal government on the legal profession and the American way of life.
We cannot be complicit through silence. It is our job to speak out. We must speak out now before there’s no one left to speak for you.
