Kristine Trierweiler has proposed the following budget cuts that were recommended by her department heads, in an attempt to get to a balanced (no override) town budget.  On this iteration of the proposed cuts, those related to

  • the elimination of the Saturday hours at the Council on Aging,
  • elimination of the evening hours at the Town House, and
  • Sunday closing of the Medfield Memorial Library.

were stricken and eliminated from the proposal, as not being worth doing for the savings effected.

MFi Salutes Stephen Nolan and Marie Zack Nolan – Lifetime Achievement Award!

Medfield Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce this year’s recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award – Stephen Nolan and Marie Zack Nolan.  Through the nomination provided by colleagues Sarah Raposa, Martha Moon, Cynthia Greene, Margaret Bancroft and Lucy Masters, it is clear that Steve and Marie exemplify the qualities MFi values:  dedicated volunteerism driven to provide a meaningful impact in the town of Medfield.

A quote from their nominators: “If Marie and Steve Nolan had not moved to Medfield in the mid-1980s our town would feel, look, and be organized in detrimentally different ways so that we wouldn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the vibrant community that exists today.”  These two dedicated citizens of Medfield have been donating their time and talents since the day they moved to town!  Some of their highlights include:

As leaders in the community, the town has benefited from “their insight, intelligence, expertise, commitment, and – not the least – good humor!”  Whether it be Marie’s leadership in helping to reduce Medfield’s energy costs by nearly $600K, or Steve’s tireless efforts in managing the many different and emotional perspectives relating to the Affordable Housing discussions in Medfield, it is clear that these two conscientious citizens have made a tremendous impact on our town.

With the overwhelming support of their community, we welcome Stephen and Marie Nolan into the ranks of Lifetime Achievement Award winners.  Congratulations!!!

New Life 5K Trail Run on 5/11

New Life 5K Trail Run to take place May 11

The second annual New Life 5K Trail Run will take place on May 11, 2019.  The event benefits New Life Furniture Bank of MA and its mission to provide essential home furnishings to those in need.

This community-building event offers a morning of both competition and fun at the scenic Medfield State Hospital Grounds while supporting a great cause. The New Life 5K Trail Run is open to avid runners, walkers and everyone in between.  The inaugural event in 2018 brought out over 400 enthusiastic supporters of the New Life Furniture Bank mission.

Registration is open at www.newlifefb.org/5ktrailrun, with discounts for registration before April 5th, and for teams of four or more.  The first 400 registrations will receive a t-shirt on race day thanks to New Balance, an event sponsor.

“The New Life 5K Trail Run is a meaningful, fun way for the community to support our mission,” said Ron Yates, a co-founder of the New Life Furniture Bank. “As a direct result of funds raised from runners and sponsors, those coming out of homelessness are able to furnish their new homes with your gently used items,” he added.

“Financial contributions and donations of home furnishings continue to be our sole means for assisting our clients in need. We are proud to have been able to serve 1,700 households in just a little over five years,” said Doug Marshall, also a co-founder.

New Life Furniture Bank of MA collects high-quality gently-used furniture and household essentials that are then made available at no cost to individuals and families in need. The Medfield-based not-for-profit organization operates a Donation Center in Walpole, and serves the MetroWest and Greater Boston area. New Life provides a meaningful option for local residents who are downsizing, renovating or disposing of a loved one’s property.

MFi Salutes Pat Casey – Volunteer of the Year!

Medfield Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce this year’s winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award – Pat Casey.  Through the nomination provided by colleagues Jack Wolfe, Martha Festa and Joanna Hilvert, it is clear that Pat exemplifies the qualities MFi looks for:  a dedicated volunteer who is driven to provide a meaningful impact in the town of Medfield.

“Pat brings a unique balance of capability and character to all he does,” say his nominators.  In working with Pat on the Medfield State Hospital Master Planning Committee (MSH MPC), they observed that Pat’s “analytical skills are superb, and they form the foundation for his judgements.  Pat’s work ethic, considering the massive work load for all on the MSH MPC, is equally superb.”  Given that Pat’s full-time job takes up a substantial amount of his time, his commitment to donating a vast number of  hours of professional expertise over a 4 year span to the MSH committee as a volunteer demonstrates just how devoted he is to the improvement of our town.  ”Pat always listens and works to understand and consider everyone’s viewpoint. He is an exceptionally good and careful listener; there is no question of his attention when in conversation with him. And amid sometimes challenging dynamics, Pat was always a conciliator and collaborator.”  In the word of his nominators, “Pat Casey is simply a terrific asset to Medfield.”

Pat had tough competition this year, and we would like to thank the other Volunteer of the Year nominees.  Dick Judge, Michele Feinsilver Hoye, Liz Sandeman and Michelle Barrette we sincerely thank you for your dedication and volunteer spirit focused on improving our town!
