This afternoon at the UCC, current BC freshman and Medfield High School graduate Michael Roth, shown below with his parents, had his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. In an especially poignant moment, Michael gave his father Peter Roth an award for being his Eagle Mentor.

Mason Allan, a junior at MHS and Life Scout with Troop 89, designed and executed an Eagle Scout project that combines his creative side, awareness of mental health in his peer community, and his love for Medfield’s Rocky Woods.
As you explore The Trustees of Reservations’ Rocky Woods this winter season, keep your eyes open for nine wooden reindeer — hand built by Medfield Troop 89 scouts and friends — hidden along the trails.
Each reindeer is named after someone or something significant in Medfield’s history (plus one special friend referencing a neighboring Trustees’ property!).
The Rocky Woods Reindeer Quest is designed to get you outside enjoying the trails with your family and friends. The decreased light and increased cold of the winter months can lead to increased loneliness, and many suffer from a lack of Vitamin D due to spending more time indoors. Mason’s project focuses on increasing community connections in nature during this time of year!

On Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, Troop 10 honored their newest Eagle Scout, Noah Hutchinson, at an Eagle Court of honor at the UCC, Medfield. Noah’s scouting career started in Pack 8888 in Suzhou, China, then on to Pack 22 in Natick followed by Pack 113 Medfield. In Troop 10 Medfield, he found a place to grow, thrive, make life long friends and learn vital life skills such as Wilderness First Aid for his highlight trip canoeing 50 miles in the wilderness at Maine High Adventure. For Noah’s Eagle project he planned the Native Pollinator Garden at the Medfield Rail Trail on the corner of Harding and West Mill streets, procured a variety of native plants, planted and cared for the garden. The pollinator garden not only serves local wildlife, but adds to the delight of visitors and, as a demonstration garden, provides education on native plants.
Noah is an accomplished Senior at Medfield HS; singing in Soundwaves HS A Cappella choir; playing rugby for Wrentham Barbarians; is a black belt in karate and serving as a student teacher at Villari’s in Natick. He is a lifeguard at Kingsbury Club. This summer, he will train as an EMT. In the fall he is heading to Quinnipiac University to study Biomedical Science and play club rugby.
Medfield is lucky and grateful to have many active Scouts who carry out service projects and help make our town a great place to live.

Boston Globe article this week on increases in school construction costs – we will now pay 31% more to build the Dale Street School replacement.
I read to the students in Ms. Sager’s class today as part of Read Across America, and talked with Stephen Grenham, the Principal, afterwards. He reminded me that the failed new school proposal would have opened in September 2024. Which would have allowed us to turn Dale over to the Medfield Park & Recreation Commission last summer.

From Geoff Sauter, the enthusiastic and dedicated man in charge of the Friends of the Dwight-Derby House, Inc. The Dwight-Derby House is one of the dozen oldest houses in the US. It a national treasure, that the Friends of the Dwight-Derby House, Inc. take care of for the Town of Medfield. Tours of the fascinating Dwight-Derby House are available to anyone who asks. –
I thought you should know about what went on.
Yesterday morning, I hosted a session for the Medfield Girl Scouts to explain the materials and construction techniques used in colonial homes. The young ladies are working on a badge called, “Cadettes who Build”. With exposed beams and open walls, the Dwight-Derby house was the perfect place to start.
The next phase is a visit to Home Depot to look at currently available building materials.

Carrigan’s Dad is unfortunately hidden behind Caeli.
Half of Troop 10 seemed to be female.

I started this blog to share the interesting and useful information that I saw while doing my job as a Medfield select board member. I thought that my fellow Medfield residents would also find that information interesting and useful as well.
