Hinkley land RFP

Good article in the Medfield Press this week on the next steps for the proposed senior housing on the former Hinkley land – it starts with a request for proposals (RFP) – see the full article here.

The town purchased about ten acres from the Hinkley family for $1.1 m. and is looking to have private developers bid to build moderately priced senior housing on about half of that land, the southern section abutting Lot 3 and The Center.  The balance of the town’s Hinkley land is off Harding Street is not included in this RFP.

Medfield seeks Hinkley senior housing

MEDFIELD – The town is seeking developer proposals for senior housing on the Ice House Road land known as the Hinkley property.

The Board of Selectmen, at its Oct. 15 meeting, approved a request for proposals on the about 5.5-acre parcel, in the hopes of creating more affordable living options for the town’s seniors. The town had purchased the property in 2000 for $1.1 million.

“The Open Door Policy”

Mike Sullivan

Medfield TV Documentary on Mike Sullivan

Friday evening I was fortunate to be invited a pre-release showing of the Medfield TV movie, “The Open Door Policy,” a documentary about Mike Sullivan at The Center.  The movie recounts Mike’s career as the long time Town Administrator by means of interviews with those with whom Mike worked.  Former selectman and current town historian, Richard DeSorgher was positioned as the de facto  narrator.  There were also clips of Mike at BoS meetings and at town meetings.

About sixty people attended, more than half were Mike’s family, including many nieces and nephews, and their families, as well as his brother Dennis Sullivan, who had flown up from Virginia to attend.  The balance in attendance were the town employees who had been interviewed for the movie and the Medfield TV staff who had distilled the hours of video interviews to create the movie.  I know that my interview lasted for about an hour, and accounted for only maybe two minutes in the movie.

The world premier of the movie will be this coming Friday at the Medfield High School auditorium.

It was nice to see that my neighbor, Olivia Deval, got credit in the movie for her production assistance work on it.  Olivia interned at Medfield TV while at MHS, graduated last June, and is now at Babson.

Styrofoam Collection Day

Volunteers Hong Le-Bruno, Barbara Myers (shown cleaning a piece of styrofoam), and a third unknown person process some of the seventeen bags of styrofoam that were collected today at the Medfield Transfer Station.  Nancy Irwin and Barbara’s husband Michael Perloff were also assisting.  It will cost the town $600 to recycle the collected styrofoam.

TWMPC Public Forum Sunday night

The Townwide Master Planning  Committee held its first public forum last night to hear from residents as to what residents feel are our town’s issues.  Over 100 citizens gathered for a community dinner and brainstorming session at the Blake Middle School cafeteria to discuss:

  • our favorite things about Medfield,
  • our least favorite things,
  • what is missing,
  • the issues we see, and
  • what can be done to improve the town.

I included the sheets that Casey compiled of what our table discussed, how we voted, and at the end our tally.  The dots are the five votes each person at the table got to use with respect to each of the three topics on which we voted.
