New officers at Legion

Last night the new officers were installed at the Legion.  I learned that the Legion long term will be in for big changes, as Commander Ron Griffin, who is also the town’s Veteran"s Officer, related that there are more WWII vets in town than vets under 50.  The Legion’s future therefore per force must be the Ancillary and the Sons of the Legion, as the number the vets declines.

Trailhead series #4

I have no idea if this spot on Preservation Way is the start of a public trail or not, but it is really beautiful start of something.  If it is a trail, it needs clearing.

Trailhead #3

This one is on Preservation Way.  The sign is unique, so I am guessing it was a trail required by the Planning Board or the ZBA as part of the permitting process, in which case the developer, Ralph Costello, would have made up the sign.

Best message to the graduates

Saw this on the Kingsbury Grist Mill’s water wheel this morning.  "Congratulation class of 2014."

Trailhead series #2

Jade Walk trailhead actually has Conservation Commission small round 3" signs on twin posts.  Good marking, but  it is not likely that one would know what it is unless one knew what you were looking for.

Unmarked trailhead

One of the things the town needs to do better is to map the trails in town and clearly mark the trailheads.  This trail into Rocky Woods from Boyden  comes out between the two evergreens on the right.  Hard to find this trail unless you already know where it is.  This is a perfect example of why the town needs to better mark all the trailheads.

Sidewalk almost done

New sidewalk just needs a few bricks cut to fit to be done.

New sidewalk

Seen this morning, when going to the Library for Cultural Council press station on community branding, cement being poured for the new sidewalk. Bobby Kennedy and Ed Hinckley said the four new trees that can be seen are ginkgo trees. It is good for the businesses there that this is getting finished.

Fox on cat

Yesterday I was first attracted by an unfamiliar screeching noise coming from the back of our yard, then I saw two blurs racing from the back woods towards the house, then I realized the first black and white blur was my cat and the second blur was a grey fox right on its tail.  The fox was clearly out for dinner, but left without our cat when I both yelled and ran.

This cat came to us as a stray from Bridge Street, and much as we have tried to make it into an indoor cat, it still aggressively seeks to get outside, crouching by the door and bolting past our feet when we come home.

Be careful about letting any small pets outside.
