Summer doings – Julius Caesar 7/18-19

Before the Energy Committee meeting last night I had a few minutes, so I listened in on a rehearsal for the Gazebo Players of Medfield’s upcoming performance of Julius Caesar, coming July 18 & 19.

Summer movies

The library is looking to show movies outdoors at 8PM on Tuesday nights this July and August.  This letter came to the selectmen from the new Director –

June 25, 2015

Board of Selectmen Town Hall
459 Main Street
Medfield MA 02052

Dear Selectmen,

I am writing to request the use of the Town Green (near Gazebo) for showing outdoor family movies as part of the library’s programming this summer. Through the Friend’s of the Medfield Public Library, we were able to purchase a large, inflatable screen that can be set up and taken down easily. The movies to be shown will only be rated G or PG and the showings will be free to the public, with popcorn provided by the library.  A staff member will be present during the entire showing of the movie and the library will be responsible for taking down the equipment and cleaning up the area.

I have shown outdoor movies at my previous library and they are a great hit, offering a kind of drive-in appeal, with kids coming in their pajamas with their sleeping bags!

We are considering showing the movies on Tuesday evenings, beginning at 8:00 pm throughout July and August.

If you need any more information, please let me know. Thank you for your consideration.

Warmest Regards,

/Kristen M. Chin/

Pahty Saturday night…Zullo…FUN!

Here are 3 BIG reasons not to miss the Zullo Art Festival & Party THIS Saturday…
1. Last year’s event was a blast! People were talking about it for days after, and those who missed out said, “I wished I had gone — I heard it was a lot of fun.” So don’t be one of those people with regrets! Get your tickets now for $75 each at the Medfield Public Library, online by clicking here, or at the “door” (aka the tent flap)!

2. GREAT music & art. The Fathoms are back playing great beachy, danceable tunes, and there is more art up for sale this year than ever! The selection includes newly painted small pieces, as well as BIG hidden treasures among the 100+ pieces that were donated through this year’s new art drive. A ticket to the festival and party gives you access to the sale, including some highly valuable treasures!

3. Open bar for beer/wine…delicious food donated by numerous local establishments (see below)…a live auction (with Jerry Potts as auctioneer; see some featured items below)…PLUS, a new “Mystery Wine Grab!” Just pay a small price to get a bottle of wine that’s been wrapped from view, and hope that you get one of the ones worth a lot more than you paid!

Auction items include:

Chatham Getaway…Broadway Show & Transportation…Kurt Jackson Birthday Party…Zullo for Private Party…and more!

Moxie Strings concert 3/19 at MHS

From the Medfield Music Association –

The Moxie Strings to perform in Medfield

2015-03-11_12-13-28

The nationally known music of The Moxie Strings is coming to Medfield for a special performance from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 19 in the MHS Lowell Mason Auditorium.

Tickets for The Moxie Strings are on sale at Park Street Books — $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens; they are also available online at medfieldmusicassociation.com.

The trio – known for its “electrifying combination” of a fiddler, cellist and drummer/percussionist – will travel from Michigan to perform for the Medfield community and conduct day-time clinics for Medfield orchestra students.

“This is a unique opportunity to see a nationally known music group right here in Medfield. Fans of live music will not want to miss it. Prior to the concert our music students will be treated to valuable hands-on learning from the nationally acclaimed act,” said Brenna Hayden, Orchestra Director for Medfield Public Schools.

The Moxie Strings consists of fiddler, Diana Ladio; cellist, Alison Lynn; and drummer/percussionist Fritz McGirr. They are known for their “feel-good melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms”, and their ability to put a fresh and enticing spin on Celtic and Americana music.

Ladio, Lynn and McGirr hold Bachelor of Music degrees in music performance and music education, which have given each the technical foundation to explore the limits of his/her instrument, and helped the group build a reputation for musical excellence. The Moxie Strings write the majority of their pieces, and also arrange traditional tunes from many countries.

The Moxie Strings have taught enrichment clinics in over 60 schools throughout the U.S., and have also presented on their research and methodologies to many teachers at music education professional development conferences. Through their clinics Ladio and Lunn aim to create equipped creative well rounded musicians.

The Moxie Strings event is supported in part by a grant from the Medfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The Medfield Music Association is also helping to sponsor the program.

Free concert at UCC Saturday at 7PM

Email today from David Domeshek –

Wanted to let you know about a fun concert in Medfield this Saturday at 7pm, featuring some really good musicians playing an “eclectic” program of pop, R&B, “great American songbook” standards, gospel and blues. Heidi Willson, a wonderful singer, will front a 9-piece band comprising professional musicians — oh yes, and me (the amateur who’s in way over his head!) — many of whom Heidi knows from her days in the U.S. Navy Band (no slouch outfit).

The concert begins at 7pm sharp in the sanctuary at UCC Medfield (496 Main Street – Rte. 109), and will run about an hour. Best of all, it’s FREE.

If you’re around and available, hope to see you there!

What you need to know

The Angel Run is this Sunday, December 7th and final preparations are under way. As a reminder, the race starts and ends at Medfield High School. Parking will be available at MHS, Blake Middle School or Metacomet Park for any overflow needs. The race starts at 2pm but we suggest getting there earlier to avoid the crowds.

If you live in Medfield, your T-shirts and Bibs will be hand delivered to your house on Wednesday or Thursday of this week. If you don’t receive your package in your mailbox by end of day Thursday, please email us at angelrun@medfieldfoundation.org.

If you live outside of Medfield, your T-Shirts and Bibs will be available for pick-up starting at 12:30pm on Sunday at Medfield High School near the same day registration tables.

Volunteers Still Needed

We are still in need of volunteers willing to help out for the event. Do you have family that are planning to watch instead of participate? Their assistance could be very helpful. Open positions are listed on our Sign-up Genie site. And even if you are participating, we are looking for Bakers to provide some treats for the after party. Use the Sign-up Genie site to register as a Baker.

What about the Weather?

The Angel Run is a rain or shine event. If the weather is a bit unpleasant, we’ll still be doing the event. So dress appropriately and put on a smile.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please email us at angelrun@medfieldfoundation.org.

See you Sunday!
