Registration now open as Angel Run celebrates 10 years

The fall season is in full swing here in Medfield and that means it is time to register for the MFi Angel Run. This year’s race on Sunday, December 6th will be the 10^th running of the much loved family run/walk through the winding 5k route around South, Elm and Philip streets and surrounding neighborhoods. Registration is exclusively online at the Medfield Foundation’s website, medfieldfoundation.org. Register by the October 31^st deadline for early bird pricing and the ever-popular commemorative t-shirt. New this year is an opportunity to purchase a 10^th anniversary keepsake when you register.

“We are pleased to introduce bib chip timing for the race in 2015. The timing chips which are embedded into the runners’ bibs will give participants highly accurate finish times and alleviate some of the finish line congestion, ” said Rose Colleran, event co-chair.

Also new this year in honor of the 10^th anniversary of the Angel Run is a poster contest open to all Medfield public school students. Poster making party events will be running after school during the month of October. Winners will be chosen for special recognition and all entries will be used to decorate the course.

“Our student volunteers are a big part of the MFi Angel Run and we wanted to give them a special role in helping to commemorate the 10^th running this year. Course decorations give such a personal touch to the event every year so the poster contest seemed a natural fit,” said Susan Weisenfeld, co-chair.

As always the MFi Angel Run is a family friendly community event and participants of all paces are welcome including strollers and dog walkers. Local businesses have been quick to sign on with sponsorship and in kind donations.

“It really is an opportunity to ‘Give Where You Live’ here in Medfield,” said Evan Weisenfeld, Medfield Foundation president echoing the organization’s mission statement of Building A Stronger Medfield. All proceeds from the MFi Angel Run are used to help Medfield residents in need.

After October 31^st registration for the Sunday, December 6^th 2pm run/walk will only be available on race day with no option for a t-shirt purchase. Visit the Medfield Foundation website at medfieldfoundation.org to be part of the tradition.

Medfield.TV dedicated its Edward P. Doherty Memorial Garden at the end of Baker’s Pond this afternoon. In this photo is the granite bench in Ed’s honor, the garden, and the Medfield.TV brain trust. A sundial is still to come.

The Dohertys moved to Medfield on the late 1980s and Ed became involved in many community things. I met him when he co-chaired the 30th celebration committee.

Ed had his own show on Medfield.TV.

I checked on the beaver dam and the two new beaver deceiver pipes installed by TTOR at its Fork Factory site this morning. The prior 6″ pipe is visible in the photo.

The total water level behind the dam was down slightly from my visit from before all the rain, and the pipes had a good amount of flow.

I disturbed and saw fly both a great blue heron and three ducks. Jewell’s Pond appeared OK from my drive by.

Our rain gauge this morning held 3 3/4″ of water.  To me our grass already looked happier than on Sunday.
