Why do the Selectmen have to vote on an employee health insurance increase of 1.72 % ? Is Blue Cross raising every town employee’s rate or just a certain group ? ( union / non-union ? Thanks

Here is the memo that accompanies that agenda item (th on-line version at the town website will have the chart in a more readable form) –
Memo to: Board of Selectmen
Memo From: Michael Sullivan, Town Administrator
Re: FY14 Health Insurance Rates
Date: April 19, 2013
The Insurance Advisory Committee met last week and after a long discussion voted to recommend to
the Board of Selectmen that the rates for the Active Employee HMO and PPO plans be increased by a
uniform 1.72% for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2013. The rate sheet showing these proposed
increases is attached. The retiree plans are not affected by this rate increase, as they are Medicare
Supplemental Plans, which are adjusted to coincide with the January 1 Medicare rate adjustment
If you agree with this recommendation, please vote the proposed rate increases so we can notify the
Town’s health insurance carrier, Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association, Blue-Cross-Blue Shield
ofthe rate changes. On behalf of the Committee thank you.
