CVS Expanding

CVS has filed plans with the Conservation Commission to expand at its current location.  CVS will take over the whole building, including the part now occupied by the D’Angelo sandwich shop, and it will have a drive through pharmacy at the rear.

  1. Can they change their facade as a give back? At least it should be consistant with the towns existing architecture.

    • Dave,
I saw a CVS landscaping plan, so at least that will improve. You are right that the town should make them improve the façade if we have any leverage in the permitting to do so. Cumberland Farms (reported as being closed earlier today) came out looking better because the Historic District Commission exercised some control via its permitting. If CVS is also in the historic district and the work triggers a permit requirement, then I bet they will again try to influence the look and appearance. I wrote façade requirements into the decision I authored for the car wash, when I was on the Zoning Board of Appeals. I would have no problem with the town adopting a design review bylaw for the downtown area.

  2. Does the plan include improving traffic flow in, thru and out of that lot? I personally don’t see the value of the drive thru especially if it exacerbates the traffic flow challenge.

    • John,
The drive through was entirely behind the existing building, a cul de sac type layout. entering from the existing parking lot I think there was some improvement in the entrance exit to Rte. 27 too, maybe by combining the two that are there now into one curb cut, but I am not sure if I recall that one correctly.

  3. They better improve the traffic flow in order to get the permits for this project. As someone who lives on North Meadows Road, the traffic flow in and out of that lot, with the wait-forever traffic light, is just horrible. The entrance and exit should be moved further back from the intersection of 109 and 27, and should be CLEARLY marked at ALL times of the year; too many people are exiting from the entrance, and using the lot as a cut thru to avoid the light.
